Something I think people do too little of these days is listen to their elders and ask advice. Most young people think they know it all. They approach life with blinders on and go ahead full steam without ever seeking advice. This type of approach is okay to do at times, but is definitely not something one should make a habit of doing especially politicians and leaders of countries. Other people’s lives are at stake. Leading without advice has led kings and nations to their doom.

Too many youth know little about history. They are either ignoring the history books, the Bible and what their elders, parents and teachers have to say or they are just plain being stupid by not listening and paying attention.

Older people have been through a lot. They’ve seen and done things most have yet to do. It is only natural that they can provide good insight into problems, our lives, work and world situations. We should always seek our elders’ advice.

Today, a group of elder men and one woman finished their task of putting their heads together to see if they could come up with a good and possibly better approach to the Iraq War. Whoever thought of putting this group together should be commended, even if what they have or had to say amounts to nothing.

At first, I was a little leary. There were 5 Democrats and 5 Republicans in the group to provide the think tank with a balanced diet of brain cells. Knowing that still didn’t sit well in my mind though. With the way things went in the November elections, so many Republicans are really Democrats in disguise. But I soon learned that these Democrats and Republicans aren’t typical. They are older and no longer in the mainstream political picture. They are has-beens, as referred to by one of the leaders of the group. These has-beens though are better than many and probably most politicians currently in office in Washington and around the world. They are weathered. They have been around the block a few times, not to mention the world, and wise because of it.

The report they made, which gives 79 proposals to help the Iraqi situation, which I have not heard in full, just from the reports on the mainstream media seems well thought out, not thrown together at the drop of a dime…and that’s saying something because the mainstream media is very liberal and their report was surprisingly positive.  The group didn’t come up with a cure for the Iraq War or to help the Iraqi people fight the terrorists currently plagueing the country, but the report does give good advice, advice well worth listening to and reading. I doubt this report will be placed on the shelf to collect dust.

I believe President Bush has the best interest of Americans and Iraqis in mind while he runs America and makes decisions regarding the Iraqi War. If he didn’t, he would have already pulled the military out of Iraq. Bush is no idiot. I find it hard to believe he could go through life without learning from his father and his God. And I find it equally hard to believe that he would brush aside the advice these 10 wise people have to offer. Pray he uses their advice as wisely as anyone could.
