Finding Christian Music Translated Into Japanese
Music is an important part of our lives. Music is a gift from God. Many deny this because they deny God. But that doesn’t stop them from singing or making music. It also doesn’t mean that all music is good or beautiful. The beauty in music is in the ears of the beholder.
In the Bible, music comes from the joy people have. They are so happy they burst out in music, song and dance praising God, thanking Him for the blessings they have received from Him and His love.
Over the years, many people have gotten away from worshipping God through music, song and dance, and focused more on using these as ways to edify and bring themselves joy. Some of this music is good and some…well, some isn’t. God, however, is the God of all, even those who don’t give Him thanks through the music they produce.
By a worldly definition, songs that praise or give thanks to a nation, deity and so on are called hymns. If a song gives thanks to a nation, it is considered a hymn and also called an anthem. But it is still a hymn since by definition any song that praises or gives thanks is a hymn. For those who believe in God, since He created us and everything around us and since the Bible came before Websters Dictionary, hymns are songs that praise or give thanks to God. And since all Christian music and songs praise or give thanks to God, they can all be considered hymns. Most of the time, though, when someone uses the word hymn, it often refers to Christian songs written many years ago, not recently written Christian songs. But if we use the Websters Dictionary definition, we can consider all Christian music hymns, since all Christian music praises and gives thanks to God in one way or another.
For Japanese Christians, hymns translated into Japanese are hard to find. With less than 1% of Japanese people being Christian, there aren’t a whole lot of Japanese Christians writing music or translating already written music into the Japanese language. But that is changing as more Japanese people become Christian.
