Early Morning Up the Mountain
I don’t know what it was, but I woke up at 4:30am and couldn’t go back to sleep. Actually, I felt nice and awake so I figured I’d go outside and do something before the rest of the world woke up.
I grabbed my trusty new digital camera and my motorized mamachari and headed up the mountain.
Hachiman-san is extremely popular during New Year’s early in the morning, but on other days, it’s nice and quiet. There are no people on the mountain.
Today was no different. The only thing on the mountain besides me were a few elderly who normally wake up at these times of day. They were out on their daily stroll up the mountain and through the bamboo forests.
Hachimangu Shrine is a beautiful place, even though I’m a Christian and not Buddhist. I can still enjoy the beauty of the old buildings and the trees and nature God made surrounding it all. It’s so peaceful there in the mornings when no one else is around. Birds were singing and a raccoon was still out and about searching for food. Unfortunately, he scampered off into the forest before I could take a picture of him. I did, however, get a lot of time to take pictures of other things.
Tomorrow, if I can wake up early enough, I may go further into the woods and out to the other side to capture pictures of Kyoto at sunrise.
For now, here are some of the pictures I took this morning.
