Making People Better People
I just heard about another shooting in America today! I feel very very sorry for the people who lost family members and friends because this guy thought it was cool or the only option he had was to take other’s lives along with his own to escape the troubles in his life.
This guy, like so many before him, comes from a life no education of awareness or self-help group could have fixed. This guy probably did what he did because he was angry, lonely and insecure. And all those feelings probably came from years of a lack of communication and love between him and his family and friends, and from the lack of discipline, and regard for others in his life. But it ultimately came from a sense of hopelessness.
Nothing in this world can bring back those he killed today! But something can be done to keep others like him from doing the same thing. But it isn’t by banning things from our lives. We can ban all the things in this world like guns, computers, email, books and so on, but the lack of them all will not solve the problems that we face on a daily basis that make us angry or crazy to the point that we hurt others or ourselves.
We hurt others anyway we can to get revenge or make ourselves feel better. We usually use words, because they hurt best. But we also write nasty letters. Others punch or kick, or stab or shoot. And still, after it all, no one really feels any better. It just postpones the pain and suffering further, adds guilt to our lives and makes us even angrier in the end because we feel we have no way out or no way to fix it all. So we either run and hide, or after our bitterness and anger festers, we explode and do something that changes our lives and others around us so much there seems to be no turning back or alternative but to take our own lives and possibly others’ lives with us.
But none of that is true because there is always a way out. God is the way out! But with so many these days, God doesn’t exist! God is useless! God is nonsense! He can do nothing for us because we have dug such a huge hole! But that is nonsense! God, even though He cannot be seen, is here, there and everywhere we turn. He is waiting for us to turn to Him for help. All we have to do is be willing to believe. But for so many, that is too hard. It’s much easier to pull a trigger, or plant a bomb, or send a nasty hate mail! Believing in God and trusting in Jesus Christ as our Savior from sin is too hard. But that is not true. All we have to do is ask Him into our lives, and He will be there to help us get out of our bad situation.
In order to truly love, we need to have God in our lives. Otherwise, there will be an emptiness or void that nothing and no one can fill; not sex, drugs, or even rock-n-roll. Eventually, without God, we will find ourselves back to the point where we feel helpless and insecure and lost, and possibly to the point where the latest gunman came to be; to the point where his life and no one elses was worth living for.
America and the rest of the world needs God! Throw Him away, and what do we have to live for? Nothing as far as I’m concerned because nothing we can win, buy or steal is of any real value. The only things in this world that are of any true value are lives and the souls attached to them that God loves unconditionally. Let’s focus on the love of God, not worldly physical things that give us temporary pleasures and gratification. If we share God’s love, then people will grow up valuing others and themselves because they will have something to live for.
