Do you own an iPhone? Are you running 2.1+ and can’t wait to install the latest version OS, 3.0? Well, wait no longer because Apple released 3.0 today!
To download and install 3.0 on your iPhone, you first need to download the latest version of iTunes 8.2, about 72 megabytes. Open iTunes and click on Update.

Once iTunes is updated, plug your iPhone into the computer and run iTunes then click on your iPhone and Update. The 3.0 iPhone OS download is around 230 megabytes and will take a few minutes to several hours depending on your Internet speed. It will automatically download the file and install the updated OS. Before the process begins, it will ask you if you want to backup your data. Don’t avoid this if you value the information on your iPhone.
NOTE: If you have not tied your iPhone into Google or MobileMe, you should create an account and upload your contacts to one of these before doing the update so you don’t lose your contacts. I use Google because MobileMe costs extra to use and is unnecessary in my book.
To get your Contacts back on your phone, go to Settings and then Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Scroll down to the bottom and find Import SIM Contacts. Once that has been clicked, your Contacts will be filled back up with the people you previously had input into the device.
Overall, it took me about an hour to download everything and install the new OS.
